Right off the bat, Dos Equis Especial is the featured beer with Tecate/Tecate Light. I wish they had Corona, but most resorts in the area appear to feature Dos Equis.

Wow- It was great!! Just got back on the 14th of Feb. Anyone having doubts that things are not up and running? Well don't!! It was great, you can barely tell a hurrican ripped through the resort just a few months ago. No complaints, everything was perfect.

    Cressie,
You will need to know which side of the hotel you are staying at.
    Sunrise or Nizuc
If you have never stayed at the MP before, not knowing what side to enter can add some frustration.

After you get your wrist band, I would turn around and request a drink.

Make sure everyone in your family knows where your room is. The first day can be a little overwelming. At least everyone would then know where to meet at a given time. By the second day, you will have the place memorized.

Almost all the day resturants are something on the top, something on the bottom and something on the feet.

A few of the resturants will request pants and a golf shirt and shoes for the guys and the women just always seem to know what to wear. My friend wore shorts and flip-flops the entire time we were there everywere and he was never asked to leave. Maybe that is why were seated next to the kitchen.

I have not been to a disco in over 30 years so I can't help there. I can tell you it is loud when you walk by.

The rooms are wonderful and open. Well, as I just found out a while ago not all the rooms face the ocean, but they do have open doors with a balcony. (I had all in there, but have not seen every room)

I'm a smoker and the only place I remember being non smoking was when I was swimming in the pools. Darn things kept getting wet. The spa was non smoking. My wife is a non smoker (there has to be one smart one in the family) and she never complained about the smoke except in the bar by the reservation desk on the Sunrise side. But I don't smoke when we are together unless we are outside.

Have a fantastic and wonderful time. If you find my post on this MP forum a page or two back, you will see I posted a few pictures of the place. They are waiting for you. Don't forget to bring a couple of bucks for tips.

    Dennis

    Hi All

My wife and I were at Moon Palace (Sunrise) from Feb 9 – Feb 16. We had a great time. The staff as usual were very friendly, kind and went out of there way to make our stay as nice as possible. The property obviously sustained a lot of damage from Wilma and for the most part was rebuilt to the point where you don’t notice many differences. We took the kitchen tour and at the beginning they show a video of the property right after Wilma hit and then they show a present photo of the same area. Some of the pictures show the sea wall pushed into the pool. They have done a magnificent job of getting it back to pre-hurricane condition. Most of the stain glass in the main entrances was damaged and they have almost all of it replaced. They have a station set up at one of the door entry ways where the guy actually does the repairs. It looked like he had most of it done so I don’t know for how much longer that will be there. They were hooking up outside lights and building the little thatched roof shelters for the beach. The Aqua world building between Nizuc and Sunrise was being worked on and should be open (based on what we saw nothing official) in a couple of weeks. The pier was destroyed and they are building a new one next to the remains of the old pier. If you want to go on the wave runners or parasailing they have a tent on the beach to take care of you. They have two catamarans to use and one of them has two sails so it can really fly. One word on the catamarans is when you are mid way through the turn be sure to release the rope to loosen the main sail or that can flip over and launch you a decent distance. The mini golf is open from 10:00 am till 5:00 pm (lights have to be hooked up and then they may extend the hours back till 10:00pm) so if you are looking at having a killer match with your wife after the kids are done, not yet. According to our guide when we did the sales pitch they had about 700 rooms out of 2000 open. Also our guide said that the Beach Palace will be completely leveled and rebuilt as a channel was carved from the ocean to the lagoon under the Beach Palace. As we walked around we noticed new furniture ready to be placed in rooms as the interiors were completed. We did notice that they did not have the outside restaurants open on the Nizuc side of the complex. This trip we decided to try the Brazilian restaurant and it was impressive when the servers came out with swords skewering various types of meat. Not for vegans :D . We took a couples massage at Aventura Spa Palace to see how that property fared. The only quick thing I noticed was that the central court area went from open to closed with a white sky lighting. This was nice because in case of rain you did not have to bail out of the central area. The massage was great and so was the cross current pool (my wife likes that better than a tread mill). We went on one of the new tours offered in the package, Snorkeling Adventure Tour. It was pretty good. They take you to marina Morala and go out on a catamaran. There were two 35 minute snorkeling sessions and the time spent navigating between the two points. Then you could sign up to go parasailing, ATV/speedboat or wave runners, horseback riding or just sitting on the beach for a couple of hours. We opted for the horseback riding (wife won as I prefer to be able to control my application of horsepower with a twist of the wrist not a kick in the side) and my inner legs are still feeling that ride. They had a setup where you ride a horse bareback into the water and then you went and got on a saddled horse for a trail ride. The bareback ride consisted of you being vaulted up and hang on to the mane while a rider leads your horse into the sea. After several attempts to launch you into the water as the horse goes up and down they lead you out and snap a picture. They then lead you through a quick lesson on how to ride a horse and then off you go on your trail ride. One of the guys in our group was a professional roper on the rodeo circuit, that was cool. We had our ride video taped for some commercial so if you see a middle aged guy wearing a white tee shirt, blue swim suit, kaki boonie hat and sunglasses frantically trying to stay perched on top of the horse that may be me. After the trail ride, about 70 minutes, we had lunch and then hung out on the beach until it was time to go back to the Moon Palace. This was our third trip to the Moon Palace and all in all a great trip and we can’t wait to go back. The only thing that we really missed doing was visiting the Palace resorts in the hotel zone to play on the beaches. That will be for the next trip when the other resorts are up and running.

Great review- I couldn't have said it better myself. However, the pool restaurants on the Nizuc are open, we ate there almost everyday the 7th - 14th of Feb. But I'm with you, can't wait to go back.
