    Cancun - Fantasy of bankers

"Cancun - Fantasy of bankers" was written by Fernando Marti and published June 30, 1991. The book was translated into english by Jules Siegel, who also wrote the "Cancun User's Guide" (www.cancunguide.com).

    1975 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

I just bought a 1975 Sports Illustrated Issue on ebay. The cover article is about Cancun: Mexico's newest beach resort. There are some really nice photos and a long article about Cancun in it's infancy. I'll post some pics and a summary of the article when I have a chance.

Anyone else have any photos of Cancun from the 1970s? Cancun was a real jet-setter type of location back then.

It is my understanding that the TTR complex was one of the original properties in Cancun from about 1974. I would love to see some pictures of that just to see if any of those buildings made up a portion of what was recently torn down. I have searched the web with no luck.

FYI - The first hotel/resort built in the, then new, Cancun Hotel Zone was the 74-room Playa Blanca, built by Diego de la Peña which opened in May 1974.
Subsequently he acquired a neighboring hotel called Plaza Las Glorias and made the expansion of the property bringing it to 384-rooms and renamed the enlarged property Blue Bay Getaway (it was later remodeled in 1984 and eventually renamed again to Temptation Resort & Spa) ;)
