I got a referral from someone but I'm unsure if its worth it to use or if I should just stick with booking through my travel agent... how is it different? I just don't to be scammed or anything... Can someone explain it o me please? We are traveling mid may, first timers for our 1st wedding anniversary! Thanks

Going as a Premier guest is worth it for some and not for others. It depends on what you like and what's important to you. In my opinion, the best perks we get with Premier membership is the reserved area by the pool and the service that comes with that, the upgraded meals/wine/booze, the use of the spa, and room service. For us, there was no cost savings for the room. It was the same cost as we would have spent through Expedia or a similar site. The room didn't seem upgraded to us, but the room location was slightly better than in the past. Let us know if you have any other questions. We are happy to help. Make sure you let them know it's your anniversary when you book, as they will do something special for you in your room. :liebe011: -Ginger

Basically you get a better rate with all the perks of being a member. The commitment from you in return for going on the referral, is that you have to go through the member presentation. Takes about 90 minutes.

No scam, all premier members have referrals they offer up.
You also get all the perks that the members get, premium booze, butler, special reserved areas etc.

Sure, first off, Steve isn't a huge fan of people trying market their referrals on here (feel free to PM if you like and I can let you know how to look this up).

That being said, basically the referral lets you have the perks that members have during your stay (access to the premier bar, more options at the a la carte menus etc). If it comes down to price ask yourself if you're willing to pay a little more for more perks. If that isn't important to you then go with the cheaper option. As the person using the referral that's really what you have to consider, also know that you are obligated to attend the 'welcome breakfast' or more correctly put timeshare pitch. You don't need to buy anything but the deal is that you sit in and let them make their offer to you.

    Hope that helps.

Agree with what everyone has said so far. The only thing I'd add is this if you want to know what kind of perks you might receive while down there is to ask the person that gave you the referral in the first place. All you have to do is book your airfare down to the resort so if you can find a super cheap flight it's good that way, and you pay what the member pays for the room, you get the premium liquor, more choices on the menu, butler service, member only areas, you will have to sit through a presentation once while down there pick a time that's convenient for you. If you can put it off until the day you check out do that as you can always cut the meeting short by saying thanks that's wonderful we gotta go have to catch my transfer back to the airport.

We are headed down on a referral and we are paying more than what the members are paying. When the rates were sent to me it showed member rates and a guest rate for the member. It was a difference of about $70/night. Would that be because they are coming with us or is someone getting the wrong information....either way this is our 5th trip but first time booking through a referral. If we didn't have a free flight it wouldn't be any cheaper for us to go this route, in fact it would be cheaper to book all inclusive. Either way....it's a win win because we are going back :)

Referrals get 25% off from the regular Price, members have different exclusive prices only for members.

So you log on, register and make your first post and blindly ask this?
And claim ignorance on the subject.
    Hard to fathom.

And you did No research on here!
Why wouldn't you ask the 'someone' who you claim is giving you the referral?

We are premier members and we don't have referrals. We have a free week every year.

This was not my first post, I'm not a forum newb as I'm also a member on Tripsmarter which is very similar to this page. & I did ask the member who gave it to me, but I had never heard of such thing before so I wanted to ask others to confirm it. This is what forums like this are for, for people to ask questions from others with experience and get helpful answers, tips, advice. No need to be rude.

Thank you to everyone else who replied! You've definitely helped me in making a decision.

Depending where you are from our experience has been that sometimes it's just cheaper to book on a regular charter or package. So I would say do the comparison. And on a referral you have to sit the through the resorts presentation. Honestly I don't see any real perks that would make me pay extra for my per night stay

Its "historically" rare that a referral is cheaper than several online booking sites.

I don't think its worth paying extra for unless there is a specific drink you really like that members can get that the red bands can't get you.

However, we are getting ready to book our October trip the best price I can get for air/hotel is $3560 (9 nights) We are able to use a friends referral and a 20% westjet coupon code (they messed up a flight for us last year) and even with a VERY generous CDN/US conversion. I'm getting it for $3130.

In my opinion, $430 savings plus some perks is a win-win for us and well worth 90 minutes of our time to sit through a boring presentation.

It won't be a benefit for everyone all the time but it just might work for you :)

Saved 600 usd booking a referral Versus my normal Expedia last Halloween.

and saved 200 booking next April.

Historically it has been cheaper to book via travel agents , but ever since Aplha rooms has stopped offering discount rooms , the #,s have changed overall. ( less competition)

Just my observation , on my last 2 bookings,, and I shop a lot using a lot of sites.

It is just 90 minutes in the morning,, and they do have later bookings for meeting.

The room you get is the Category you book/pay for btw.

our referrals have saved money all 6 times so far (compared to prices they searched everywhere online), all traveling from the US.

We used a referral in Nov, so we know the deal.

We use Trivago for searching online sites. It searches all at once. Matter of fact...I made a shortcut bookmark with our specific dates in it, so it's just one mouse click and I get price updates every day.

Looks about $400 cheaper in Nov using a referral instead of Trivago's cheapest. (Booking Today, it could change)

I think the best advice is to check referral prices before you book, no need to assume it will be more expensive than online booking. It's free to check, and most members are more than happy to take 2 minutes to do it for you. But not on here, it's against the rules, I'm not even sure if it's allowed to mention the referral FB group.

Prices usually take a nose dive about 3-5 months out on many sites.
