I have pesos left over from our last trip and am trying to remember how much I need for tipping to know how much I still need to get!

In pesos please (I'm from the UK), how much is recommended per day, maid, bar staff etc....

For bar staff - Is it better to tip per drink or larger in morning and more later on?

And... I know I got only small notes the last time but can't remember where I got them from!!! I think it might have been the Royal Bank of Scotland?

    Thanks!!!

50 pesos if room clean 100 if its a mess
    Buffet 20 pesos per person
Restaurant a la carte 50 per person
Breakfest 20 pesos per omelet or person working at station ( omelette etc )
Drink 20 pesos per round trip to the bar more if i have more than 2 drinks. Sometime i skip and give more pesos at the end.
And few pesos here and there for ppl such as the worker than clean the beach and hotel, security if we want to be left alone, greeting waiter ( the one that sit you )

20 pesos is like 1 USD. I tend to tip in larger amounts, but probably less frequently.

    In USD:
    5 to the maid
    5 to breakfast
    5 to lunch
10- 20 to bartenders for the day
    10 to dinner
    10 - 20 to night bartenders.

I don't always make all the meals or always make it out. So the tips do tend to change a bit depending on what my activity level is and how much I am ordering or asking them do for us Obviously when bottles of fireball are being brought over to the quiet pool, or there are other things they are going above and beyond for, then things change.

Also, don't forget that if you have a butler now, that would be a tip, but again that really depends on if you are really utilizing them or not.

It's hard not to tip good when the bartender remembers you from last year and what you like to drink.

Here is the exchange rates for today. Order more Pesos than you think you need. It's just another excuse to go back to TTR to spend it. The staff is always working hard to make your vacation perfect so reward them for the effort. Trust me they know who tips and who doesn't. Quick service vs long line for a drink is worth a few extra pesos. We tip for about everything: Maids daily, bar staff for each drink, all meals, don't forget the cook making the omelets, and the BOOBS CRUISE STAFF!

    Thank you for your replies!

We have a stack of pesos leftover from two years ago, so I guess that made it a cert we would be back! lol....

I usually take my 'usual' spending money for an AI holiday and spend most of it on tips, with the exception of a few gifts for the kids and paying for the boobs cruise. I think I'll order the same as usual and any leftovers will encourage a trip in the Spring next year!!!!

I always bring a stack of $2 bills and use those to tip with. You can order them from most local banks.

It is a difficult to put a fixed percentage or amount on the proper tip since, it is often dictated by the individuals efforts to provide you with the best experience possible. That said, appreciation in terms of a tip goes a long way, just like the service industry at home they make their living on tips. They recognize those who tip and a I found that a little generosity will pay you back exponentially in the level of service that you receive. It is also nice to occasionally tip those not accustom to receiving tips (aka. landscape crew, water sports rental shack) if you fell they are are doing a great job or go out of their way to help. Pesos are always preferred however, foreign currency is better than no tip.

I also make little notes one for each day that say extra water please in Spanish and English and leave $5 bucks by it. You can never have enough bottled water on hand especially after drinking all day.

Definitely leave a tip. It goes a long way in the service you get. Let’s face it these people break there ass for days on end dealing with us intoxicated guests. They more then deserve it!

I say get a stack of ones fives tens and twenties I think they prefer to get paid in dollars since the peso is not doing as well. From being there in September as always the service is excellent and it never hurts to give an extra tip even to the entertainment staff as well to show your appreciation for entertaining you all week. Remember whatever you give out and help others it comes back to you tenfold in your lifetime they say that the tips are included but I don't think they get nearly what we would think they would get so I'm sure a dollar a 5 or 10 will definitely put a smile on their face they're very grateful.
