Plaza Caracol Cancun and Chedraui Selecto
Plaza Caracol is a shopping centre in Punta Cancun, at the northern end of the Hotel Zone. It is worth considering for a short browse if you are nearby, but one of the area’s most useful shopping stops is the separate Chedraui Selecto supermarket, particularly for imported groceries and familiar brands from home.

You can combine the two in one outing, although they are different destinations. The supermarket is near Plaza Caracol, not inside it. If your main aim is stocking the room or buying ingredients for an apartment stay, head to Chedraui first rather than assuming a shopping mall will have the food selection you need.
De un vistazo
- Lugar: Punta Cancun, around km 8.5 to 9 of Boulevard Kukulcán.
- Plaza Caracol: a convenient nearby browse for gifts and smaller shops.
- Chedraui Selecto: a separate supermarket near the mall, useful for imported groceries, drinks and everyday supplies.
- Mejor ajuste: visitors staying in the northern Hotel Zone, or passing through Punta Cancun.
- Shopping elsewhere: choose La Isla or Marina Puerto Cancun for more of a shopping-and-dining outing.
Chedraui Selecto cerca de Plaza Caracol
Chedraui Selecto is the stronger starting point for imported groceries in this part of the Hotel Zone. It is around km 9 of Boulevard Kukulcán, close to Plaza Caracol. The Selecto format has a much broader imported selection than Soriana at Kukulcan Plaza, so it is useful when you are looking for familiar food brands rather than just a few basics.
That does not mean you need to cross Cancun for a bottle of water. If you only need a couple of ordinary items, the closest supermarket or shop may be enough. Chedraui becomes more worthwhile when you are putting together a larger grocery shop, looking for imported products or staying nearby.
Imported goods versus a quick essentials stop
If you have a particular product in mind, check the shelf and package rather than assuming a familiar-looking brand is exactly the version you buy at home. Sizes, ingredients and prices can differ. For a specific item that would justify a special journey, check availability before setting off.
Soriana at Plaza Kukulcán can still be useful for basics if you are already in that part of the Hotel Zone. For a wider imported selection, Chedraui Selecto is the more useful recommendation. Which one is more convenient depends on your hotel, rather than one supermarket being the nearest choice for everyone.
Shopping at Plaza Caracol Cancun
Think of Plaza Caracol as a short stop in the Punta Cancun area, with smaller shops and souvenir browsing rather than a full day built around department stores and attractions. Gifts, jewellery and decorative items are the sort of things to look for while you walk around.

It is an established shopping centre, but old directories and photographs do not tell you which individual businesses are trading today. If you want one particular store, check that business before travelling. There is little reason to make a long journey simply because a shop appears in an old mall list.
For someone staying close by, convenience is the main attraction. You can have a look, compare a few things and leave without needing to turn it into a major excursion. Our Guía de compras de Cancún compares the wider choice of malls and markets.
Groceries, room supplies and gifts
Decide whether this is a grocery trip or a gift-shopping trip before you go. That keeps the visit simple and helps you choose the right stop first.
- For an apartment stay: shop for the meals you will actually cook, and check what kitchen equipment and fridge space you have.
- For a hotel room: drinks, snacks and breakfast supplies can be useful if your room setup allows them. Check before buying anything that needs refrigeration.
- For imported favourites: start with Chedraui Selecto and compare the actual product size and peso price.
- Para regalos: browse Plaza Caracol if you are nearby, or choose a dedicated market outing if you want to compare lots of souvenir stalls.
Buy chilled and frozen food last, then head back to your accommodation. It is easier to browse shops before buying groceries than to carry a heavy supermarket bag around in the heat.
Paying for your shopping
Compare prices in pesos and check the total before paying. A supermarket shop is different from bargaining for a group of souvenirs at a market. Take a reusable bag, and allow for how you will carry everything back. Our Guía de divisas de Cancún Explica las opciones de pago cotidianas.
Food and a break from shopping
There is no need to make every shopping outing a whole day. You can pick up your groceries and return, or combine a browse with a meal in the Punta Cancun area. If you are carrying chilled food, eat first and leave the supermarket until afterwards.
For a proper sit-down meal, compare our Restaurantes en la zona hotelera. Check the restaurant’s actual location before assuming it is in the mall or just around the corner.
Punta Cancun also puts you near the main club area. If an evening out is part of the plan, our Guía de la vida nocturna de Cancún covers the choices. A daytime shopping visit and a late-night outing work better as separate plans when you have groceries to take home.
Where are Plaza Caracol and Chedraui Selecto?
Ambos estan en Punta Cancun, around km 8.5 to 9 of Boulevard Kukulcán. Plaza Caracol and the supermarket are separate places, so tell your driver which one you actually want. “Plaza Caracol” is useful for the mall; “Chedraui Selecto Zona Hotelera” identifies the supermarket branch.
Desde tu hotel
If you are staying nearby, check the walking route and use the proper crossings. Hotel Zone buses along the boulevard can be useful from farther away; confirm the stop with the driver. A taxi may be easier for the return if you have several bags, especially for a larger grocery shop. Agree the fare before leaving.
A hotel farther south in the Hotel Zone is a different starting point from one in Punta Cancun. Work out whether the imported selection is worth the journey for what you need, rather than travelling simply to buy ordinary essentials. Our Guía para moverse por Cancún explains the main transport options.

Opening hours and how long to allow
The mall’s shops and Chedraui Selecto keep their own hours. If the supermarket is your main destination, check the Zona Hotelera branch rather than using the hours of Plaza Caracol or another Chedraui elsewhere in Cancun.
For a combined browse, late morning or afternoon is a practical starting point. Allow around an hour for a short shop-and-supermarket visit, with more time if you are buying a full week’s groceries or stopping for food. This is a planning allowance, not a fixed itinerary.
Keep the last part of the outing simple if you are buying perishable food. A return journey arranged before you leave the supermarket is more useful than fitting in another stop with bags in hand.
Plaza Caracol or another Cancun shopping area?
Choose the Plaza Caracol area for a convenient northern Hotel Zone stop, especially when the nearby Chedraui Selecto’s imported groceries are the main reason to come.
Centro Comercial La Isla is a better fit if you want canals, lagoon-side dining, the Aquarium and Sky Wheel alongside shopping. Marina Puerto Cancún offers a marina setting, restaurants and cinema. For department stores and more of an indoor downtown outing, compare Plaza Las Américas y Malecón Américas.
If gifts and bargaining are the point, consider mercado 28. For a traditional food-market browse rather than supermarket shopping, look at mercado 23. Pick the outing that matches what you need, and use the Resumen de compras to compare the locations.
