About Cancuncare
Cancuncare.com has been online since 2002, and is run by Steve and Jannet Wright. We’re lucky enough to call Cancun home. Here’s the story of how we met and how Cancuncare came into being.
How Jannet and I met
In 1997, I visited Cancun on holiday with my best friend. We had such a good time we returned a year later, this time with three more friends.
One Friday night the group visited a nightclub called Dady Rock. I spotted a shy 21-year-old Mexican woman named Jannet sitting at a table with her friends and went over to talk.
Jannet and I got on well and spent the next few nights enjoying the nightlife in Cancun.
In October 1998, Jannet visited England for two weeks. In the summer of 1999, I returned to Cancun for two weeks, this time by myself, and spent the entire trip with Jannet.
Jannet moved to the UK full-time in September 1999, and we were married in March 2000.
The next few years were spent doing what newly married couples do: buying and furnishing a house, concentrating on our careers and building a life together.
How Cancuncare began
In August 2002, I decided to build a website about Cancun. At first, it was just a few pages of Cancun-related information and some scanned-in holiday pictures of places we’d visited.
In those days there were no online tutorials, no YouTube and no one-click WordPress installs. Instead, I bought a teach-yourself HTML book. No, not online from Amazon, but from a real bookstore!
Cancuncare was started with the aim of providing honest, straightforward advice about vacations in Cancun, along with services that Jannet and I used ourselves and were happy with.
I added more and more pages to Cancuncare, and much to my surprise the site started to attract visitors.
The Cancun forum that I was a member of felt increasingly toxic and poorly moderated to me. I thought I could do better, so I started my own. The Cancuncare Forum still exists today, although it has gone through several iterations since those early days.
Fast forward two years: in September 2004, Jannet and I decided to move to Cancun to run Cancuncare full-time.
In 2008, we started our own tour: the Cancun Boobs Cruise, an adults-only, topless-optional catamaran tour.
What Cancuncare is here for
Today, Jannet and I still live in Cancun with our family.
We still hold those same initial Cancuncare values: honest, straightforward Cancun advice and good-value services we believe in.
We hope Cancuncare continues for many more years and helps create hundreds more friendships and fun times in Cancun!
