Seafood Restaurants in Cancun

A seafood meal in Cancun can be fish tacos between outings, a family lunch at a marisquería (seafood restaurant) or a lobster dinner beside Nichupté Lagoon. Start with what you want to eat and how much of the evening you want to make of it. A quick taco stop and a waterside celebration call for different restaurants.

The choices below cover nine distinct seafood outings, from Los de Pescado’s casual tacos to lagoon-side dining at Fred’s, Navíos and Lorenzillo’s. El Fish Fritanga and El Timón add informal seafood restaurants with branches in different parts of Cancun, while Puerto Cancun offers further choices around the marina.

At a glance

  • Tacos and a quick meal: Los de Pescado is the straightforward fish-and-shrimp taco choice.
  • Informal seafood: compare El Fish Fritanga and El Timón by menu and branch location.
  • Lobster and a longer dinner: Fred’s and Lorenzillo’s offer different lagoon-side settings.
  • Farther south: Navíos is around Km 19.5, well beyond the central Hotel Zone dinner cluster.

Compare the seafood restaurants

Use the meal and setting to narrow the choice before looking at individual dishes. A waterfront address can be part of the occasion, but it does not tell you whether you want tacos, a whole fish or lobster.

Lagoon-side seafood dinners

These restaurants suit an evening where the setting matters alongside the meal. Their water view is across the lagoon, rather than an open-Caribbean beach. Compare the food and seating instead of treating every waterfront reservation as the same experience.

Fred’s Cancun

Fred’s Cancun puts seafood and a raw bar at the centre of the meal at Km 14.5. The menu runs from oysters, ceviche and tuna tartare to grilled octopus, fish and lobster, including Thermidor. Its terrace and private waterside villas give you different ways to make a dinner for two or a celebration feel like an occasion.

The private spaces, called The Villas, are a separate seating choice from an ordinary restaurant table. Our Fred’s guide explains those options, the family facilities and the practical differences from nearby steakhouse dining.

Lorenzillo’s Cancun

Lorenzillo’s is the lobster-focused alternative at Km 10.5. Its Cancun restaurant has an air-conditioned dining room with an open kitchen and an outdoor terrace over the water. It is a useful comparison with Fred’s when lobster is the reason for the evening, especially if you have a preference between indoor dining and a terrace.

Navíos

Navíos sits on a lagoon dock around Km 19.5 and focuses on Mexican fusion seafood. Its dock setting and private-dinner arrangements make it an option for a date or a meal where you want to spend time at the table. The southern position makes it a more deliberate outing from a hotel near Punta Cancun.

Casual seafood and tacos

You do not need a dress-up dinner to make seafood part of your trip. These choices give you a smaller meal or an informal sit-down option, with a wider spread of locations.

El Fish Fritanga

El Fish Fritanga offers pescadillas (crisp fried tortillas filled with fish), coconut-breaded shrimp, fried fish and octopus among its seafood choices. A few pescadillas make a different meal from ordering a whole fish for the table. The business has Hotel Zone and Avenida Huayacán branches; the Huayacán restaurant is on the city side and should not be confused with the beach strip.

El Timón de Cancún

El Timón is a seafood restaurant with a family-oriented concept and an advertised children’s area. Its branches include Chichén in Unidad Morelos, Nichupté on Avenida Nichupté and the Hotel Zone restaurant near Playa Caracol at Km 9.5. Choose the branch that fits your day, particularly if you are combining lunch with time in the city or near the northern beaches.

Los de Pescado

For a quick, casual meal, Los de Pescado focuses on fish and shrimp tacos, burritos, ceviche tostadas and pescadillas. Its current Cancun branches include Avenida Tulum, Avenida Labná and Malecón Américas, as well as locations farther from the centre. This is the useful choice when you want seafood without building the evening around a long waterfront dinner.

Seafood at Puerto Cancun

Puerto Cancun is at the northern, downtown end of the Hotel Zone, with the Marina Puerto Cancun shopping centre off Boulevard Kukulcán around Km 1.5. It gives you a marina-side alternative to the lagoon restaurants farther along the strip. These choices are in the Marina Puerto Cancun shopping development, so they can work with a shopping outing or a meal overlooking the marina. This is a marina setting, rather than dinner on a Caribbean beach.

Gran Puerto Marina

Gran Puerto is on the upper floor of the Marina Puerto Cancun shopping centre. Its Mexican seafood menu covers ceviches, aguachiles, seafood tacos, octopus and fish sold by weight. It is a useful choice when your table wants several seafood preparations, with meat, pasta and pizza also available. Use the Marina Puerto Cancun location, rather than confusing the name with the Gran Puerto ferry terminal in Puerto Juárez.

Montemar

Montemar combines seafood and steak at Marina Puerto Cancun, Local R-08. Its seafood dishes include octopus in adobo, shrimp and a ceviche with shrimp, squid and octopus. The land-and-sea menu gives a mixed group a different choice from a restaurant built mainly around seafood, while keeping the marina setting part of the evening.

Litoral

Litoral brings chef Ricardo Muñoz Zurita’s Mexican coastal cooking to Marina Puerto Cancun. Consider it when the appeal is a Mexican interpretation of seafood, rather than a quick taco stop or a steak-and-seafood combination.

Choose the seafood you want

  • Fish or shrimp tacos: a good starting point for a smaller meal. Compare the filling, preparation and number of tacos rather than assuming every order is a full main course.
  • Ceviche and cold dishes: useful as a starter or part of a meal to share. Fred’s offers ceviche and tuna tartare; Los de Pescado has ceviche tostadas.
  • Whole fish: consider it when several people want the same dish. Establish the fish’s weight, preparation, sides and total price before ordering.
  • Lobster: compare Fred’s and Lorenzillo’s when it is the centrepiece of dinner. A rich preparation such as Thermidor is a different choice from grilled fish or a few tacos.
  • Seafood platters: compare what is included and how many people the restaurant intends the dish to serve, especially when your table also wants starters.

For more Mexican dishes and useful menu terms, see Mexican Food in Cancun. Choose the preparation you actually want rather than ordering the largest seafood selection simply because it is on the menu.

Families and mixed groups

For children, compare the restaurant’s setting as well as the food. Fred’s advertises a children’s menu and Freddie’s Kids Club; El Timón describes a family-oriented restaurant with a children’s area. The exact branch and arrangements matter more than the restaurant’s name alone.

If some people do not eat seafood, Fred’s also has options such as steak, chicken, burgers and mushroom risotto. For other restaurants, look at the alternatives on the current menu before settling on a booking for everyone. For a larger group, decide whether you want individual orders, shared dishes or a private dining arrangement.

Budget and ordering

Compare a taco meal, a sit-down fish lunch and a lobster dinner as different outings. The setting, drinks and size of your order can matter as much as the headline price of a dish.

  • Check whether a price is for one taco, one serving, a sharing platter or a weight of fish.
  • For whole fish, establish the weight and total cost before it is prepared.
  • For a platter, ask how many people it is intended to feed and whether sides are included.
  • For private dining or a celebration, settle any deposit, group-menu or minimum-spend terms before confirming.
  • Look at the bill for a service charge before adding a tip. Our Tipping in Cancun advice covers the practicalities.

Location and practical planning

Match the restaurant to your part of Cancun. El Timón’s Hotel Zone branch at Km 9.5, Lorenzillo’s at Km 10.5, Fred’s at Km 14.5 and Navíos at Km 19.5 are different stops along Boulevard Kukulcán. Puerto Cancun’s marina restaurants are another destination near the city end of the strip. Huayacán and the city-side taco branches need their own route from a beach resort.

Hotel Zone Restaurants helps you compare the strip by area, while Downtown Cancun Restaurants separates the central streets from wider city-side dining. For a taxi, agree the fare before setting off; for a bus, check the route and stop. Getting Around Cancun explains the transport choices.

Before a special journey, confirm the exact branch, current menu and opening times. Reserve when the seating or occasion matters, and settle any dietary requirements that affect your choice. For the wider choice beyond seafood, compare Best Restaurants in Cancun or the Food & Drink overview.
