Isla Mujeres Directions: How to get to Isla Mujeres
Isla MujeresGetting to Isla Mujeres is one of the easiest trips you can do yourself from Cancun. However, there are many tours and trips that will include open bar, lunch etc. If you don't fancy the added hassle of organizing your own transport and not knowing where to go once you arrive then I recommend the Isla Mujeres catamaran tour. To get there by yourself there are several options, probably the cheapest is to go via Puerto Juarez. To do this you need to take a bus towards downtown. Once there get off the bus and either take a taxi to Puerto Juarez, or catch another (the R15) bus. Remember, taxis downtown are cheap and this shouldn’t cost you more than 40 pesos (you may find the taxi is more expensive on the return journey though so be prepared to haggle). There are two ferry terminals at Puerto Juarez, the first one Puerto Cancun is the closest of the two and has the fastest boats.
The crossing takes about 30 minutes and the fare is 35 pesos each way. The boats leave every half hour running from 6:30am to 8:30pm with a final ferry at 11:30pm. It is a hydrofoil and really fast. The boat is air conditioned but can be crowded. However, there will be seats for everyone as the number of people boarding are counted. If your hotel is a long way up the strip you may not want to spend the extra time traveling to Puerto Juarez, if so there are three departure points in Cancun to get to Isla Mujeres and these are detailed below.
