The most convenient and cost effective way to tour Tulum is to pre-arrange a tour before you leave.

Since Tulum is a relatively small site and is 2 hours travel time from Cancun, tours to Tulum are rarely if ever offered as a single destination.

In fact, it's probably would not be wise to visit just Tulum without combining it with another nearby attraction as you'd spend more time traveling than touring.

It takes about two hours to wander among the ruins and maybe take a refreshing dip on the beautiful Tulum beach.

For this reason Tulum is always offered as part of a package which includes Xel Ha on the regular tour or the further option of Xcaret if you choose to take the Tulum private tour exclusive to your own private group.

Xel Ha is a few miles closer to Cancun than Tulum and Xcaret is about 20 miles closer so it really does make sense to visit two places on the same day.
