Rain can be heavy at times in Cancun, but it is unlikely to rain for the whole of your trip. Often a heavy downpour will be followed by bright sunshine an hour later. Cancun weather is a strange phenomenon. Often in downtown Cancun it can be raining, while only a mile further away in the Hotel Zone blue skies and sunshine will prevail. Often, the weather forecasts for Cancun are notoriously unreliable and often seem far more pessimistic than is the actual case. In particular you should be wary of the 'chance to rain' figure which is often quoted. If there is a 50% chance of rain this does not mean there is an even chance of it raining all day everywhere in Cancun or not. What it actually means is that there is a 50% chance that some rain may fall in some part of Cancun. It doesn't predict the severity of the rain, it's extent nor its duration. So the prediction may be considered accurate even if a few drops of rain fall for a minute in a very localised area of Cancun. For this reason you should always take the weather forecast with a pinch of salt. It's common for rain to be predicted every day at certain times of the year, but often I never see a drop. It probably rained somewhere, but not on me!
